AP Physics 1 is an extracurricular algebra-based physics course covering motion, forces, energy, and other aspects of a physical object, being a simplified point, a rigid shape, or fluid.

8 Units,
Same Cohesive Understanding

Unit 1

Kinematics

Kinematics is about motion. In this unit, we'll step into the 1-dimensional and 2-dimensional worlds and build a model to represent the motion factors including position, velocity, and acceleration. Think about your challenges if you need to build a self-driving car

Unit 3

Work, Energy, and Power

Work and energy sound straightforward but some physics concepts about work and energy may conflict with our common sense. We'll look deeper into the nature of work, energy, and power to understand the underlying connections within and beyond this unit

Unit 5

Torque and Rotational Dynamics

Rotation is another motion that causes confusion for us because some concepts don't seem to add up to our common sense. Let's resolve the conflicts together so you fully understand what's going on with rotation in a consistent framework

Unit 7

Oscillations

Oscillation is a unique motion that we will analyze in its own framework that ties back to your pre-calculus math foundation. We'll see some effective approaches to master this unit and the corresponding AP questions

Unit 2

Force and Translational Dynamics

Newton's Laws are the foundations of the classic physics. After this unit, you will be able to analyze a problem like a physicist. Let's discuss on the process and best practices. Don't forget about your fictitious self-driving car project!

Unit 4

Linear Momentum

Good job and keep your momentum! Imagine your self-driving car involves in an accident. Oops. Things happen but how would you plan to protect your passengers' well being? BTW, If you can understand the collisions from different perspectives, you're likely one step ahead of the AP and competition test makers

Unit 6

Energy and Momentum of Rotating Systems

This unit gives us additional time to explore a rotational system from a different perspective. By comparing and combining a rotational system with a translational one, you'll understand the conservation laws at a new level

Unit 8

Fluids

This unit was recently moved from Physics 2 to better align the AP courses with introductory college physics courses. By looking into the internal structure of fluid, we'll learn some useful relationship about fluid dynamics
